Welcome to the Inside Out Trust website

The Inside Out Trust develops prison projects based on restorative justice principles. Prisoners learn new skills which they willingly use to provide goods and services to disadvantaged people all over the world; new skills which improve their own employment prospects after release. Prisoners learn about the needs of other people and their ability to help them. They feel restored to the world outside and more positive about their place within it.

We work closely with prison staff and prisoners, and with a multitude of voluntary and community organisations, to set up projects which link the needs of charities and community organisations all over the world, with people who live and work in prisons.

Each Project...

  • builds confidence, self-esteem and concern for the needs of other people
  • gives prisoners the opportunity to gain work experience, skills and qualifications
  • improves each prisoner’s chance of gaining employment after release
  • is a partnership between the Trust, a prison and at least one other organisation

Investor in People

As of April 2005, we were re-accredited as an Investor in People.

Investor in People accreditation means that we are fully committed to developing our staff, volunteers and Trustees who are in turn encouraged to improve their own and each others' performance.

It demonstrates that we are clear about our aims and objectives and what our people need to do to achieve them.

"Knowing that those bikes I've made are going to people in Africa makes me very happy to know I've done something good ."

"I've been in and out of prison a few times and I've never found anything I really like doing until now. Please don't give up on us inmates as there are some of us in here that really do care."

"Employing ex-offenders has certainly solved my problems with recruitment. These people are highly committed - they really want the job."
